Betrayal

Once again, democracy and justice won't get in the way of Syria, Hezbollah, or Emile Lahoud. In no way do they want to see and international tribunal into the assassination of Sheikh Rafiq al-Hariri After failing to make the democratically elected government resign, after failing to topple the government with resignations, the agents of Syria assassinated Pierre Gemayel in an effort to destroy the government and prevent justice from coming against them for the murder of Hariri and a dozen others. Nabih Berri flew to Tehran to get instructions from the Ayatollah after the resignations on the next step to take to bring the "Islamic Revolution" to Lebanon. Since they couldn't force the government to resign, they're now trying to destroy it by killing off its members.

Hezbollah and Syria aren't the only ones involved in this, however. This time the revered former general Michel Aoun, allegedly Christian, is part of this opposition and stands firm with Hezbollah and his Syrian masters. Aoun's hands are covered to the elbow in the blood of fellow Christian Pierre Gemayel. Aoun has said the government isn't legitimate and firmly believes that when the 14 March alliance is toppled Hezbollah will hand the presidency to him. Aoun is a fool if he truly believes this.

For 14 years, few, if any, criticized Syria and Hezbollah more than this man who spent much of the last 15 years in exile in France. As soon as he returns to the country and sees he isn't the top choice of the people to be president, he turns his back on everything he's opposed since the civil war and becomes the pet of Bachar al-Assad. This delusional man claims to be a leader of Christians in Lebanon and claims he wants what's best for Lebanon. Where did he develop this dream of covering the streets of Beirut with the blood of it's future leaders?

This man has betrayed not only Lebanon, but his own Christians and FRM as well. For the most part, the Sunni community, Maronite and Druze communities are united in their stance. Aoun sets himself apart from this and his alleged beliefs by  putting his own interests above the interests of his own people. This, I expect from Nasrallah and al-Assad. I would have hoped the people of the FPM would be able to keep Aoun from falling completely to the whims of Damascus but Aoun obviously does not care about them either.

How much blood is he willing to spill to be president? How much destruction is Nasrallah willing to reign on Beirut for him to be Lebanon's Ayatollah? How many more times will the Assad family sell itself out to the Israelis to get their financial and military support in annexing Lebanon? Israel said on 12 July that it was going to  turn the clock in Lebanon back 20 years. It looks like they've accomplished their goal.
